Call Transfer
Definition, how it works, and why it matters for service businesses.
Call transfer is the mechanical act of moving an already-connected call to a different destination — a cell phone, another line, a specific technician — without forcing the caller to hang up and redial. It's the connective tissue between an automated front line and the human who eventually needs to speak with the customer directly.
How it works
The system puts the caller on hold, dials the new destination, and then either drops off immediately (a blind transfer) or briefly bridges all three parties so the transferring party can summarize the situation before stepping out (a warm transfer). Which method is used usually depends on how much context the receiving party needs before picking up.
Why it matters for service businesses
Many trades businesses are solo operators or small crews who want an AI receptionist to handle bookings and routine questions but still need a clean handoff for the rare complicated dispute or VIP account.
