Text-to-Speech (TTS)

Text-to-speech, or TTS, is the technology that turns written text into spoken audio, and it's the half of a voice AI system responsible for how it actually sounds to a caller. Modern TTS engines produce voices that sound close to a real person rather than the robotic, clipped audio people associate with older automated phone systems.
How it works
A TTS engine takes a string of text — a scripted greeting, or a sentence the AI generates dynamically based on the conversation — and synthesizes an audio waveform with natural pacing, intonation, and pauses, streaming it to the caller in real time as the exchange unfolds.
Why it matters for service businesses
The quality of a TTS voice shapes whether a caller trusts they're getting real help or assumes they've hit a dead-end robot and hangs up; for a home-service business, a natural-sounding voice that can calmly walk someone through what to do about a gas smell or a burst pipe matters almost as much as the words being said.
